GLADSTONE MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY
CODE OF CONDUCT
• The skills taught in this club/gym are only for use: 1. in the gym during training 2. in the competition arena 3. for personal protection. Any inappropriate use of skills by any GMAA student or member is totally unacceptable and will result in immediate disciplinary action.
• For safety, all style specific training uniforms and equipment must be purchased by all new students within 6 weeks of commencement of membership. All uniforms and equipment must be kept clean and in good condition and must be brought to and used in every class. Students with unclean uniforms will be asked to leave the training area.
• All students, members, instructors, guests, parents, staff, volunteers and observers must be treated fairly and with respect at all times. Abuse, discrimination or harassment must be reported immediately and will result in strict disciplinary action.
• Students are expected to maintain their personal hygiene. This includes trimming nails, tying back long hair and being mindful of body or breath odour. This should be given appropriate attention out of both respect to other students and prevention of the spread of diseases.
• Students must NEVER train if they are sick or infected with but not limited to: colds or flu, staph skin infections, herpes, ring worm. Any student exhibiting symptoms will be asked to leave the training area and possibly the gym.
• Students should not come in or out of class without permission from your instructor, if you are delayed for any reason, please explain your reason to the instructor and wait on the edge of the training area until the instructor invites you to join the class.
• Students are expected to participate in seminars, competitions, and gradings with a view to developing their own technique, representing the Gladstone Martial Arts Academy and supporting other students.
• Gladstone Martial Arts Academy expects that higher level students to give examples of discipline to beginning students in a polite and helpful manner.
• Loud conversations are not permitted in the gym area and mobile phones must be switched off. Extra consideration must be given by students waiting for a class while there is still a class in action.
• Jewellery (piercings, necklaces, rings, watches, etc.) are not permitted on the matted area with the exception of the GMA Warrior Cross and Bushido/Ishoa Cross.
• As a sign of respect and friendship, students should make an active attempt to greet the instructor/s and all other students with a hand shake both before and after each class.
• Every student must have their official patches from Integrated Combat Systems on their shorts or uniform before they will be allowed to grade and/or compete. Other uniforms are not permitted.
• Any assistant instructor or senior student that is taking the class should be treated with the same respect as the usual instructor. Any disrespect with any other instructors, assistant instructors will attract disciplinary action.
• Disciplinary action will be taken against those members that do not comply with the rules and code of conduct of the Gladstone Martial Arts Academy.
The following penalties may apply for a breach of the code:
1. Verbal reprimand
2. Formal (written) reprimand
3. Removal or downgrading of grade
4. Suspension
5. Expulsion from the Gladstone Martial Arts Academy
Any other rules may be added as necessary by the Gladstone Martial Arts Academy; these may be passed down both verbally and written.
