The Gladstone Martial Arts Academy and has been offering instruction in Martial Arts now in the Gladstone area for 13 years. During this time our main priority has been to seek out better methods of training to improve what we do, how we teach it and what we offer.
This constant need for improvement and growth has seen many, many changes over those years in not only the curriculums but also the teaching methods we use and the structure of our classes. Change is a good thing when it is for growth and development and it is our philosophy to be open minded enough to learn anything, but realistic and critical enough to validate and authenticate everything before we teach it as being the truth.
This is what helps us grow and improve - we do not accept someone elses word as the truth without first trying, testing and proving it for ourselves.
What we believe:
We Believe that training should be FUN and not involve FEAR
We Believe in replacing TRADITIONAL with FUNCTIONAL
We Believe that Self-Defence starts with Awareness and Avoidence skills
We Believe that EGO has no place on the training mat
We Believe that helping others makes you better
We Believe there is a BETTER WAY to train and to teach
We Believe in training with ALIVENESS
3 Simple Rules:
Everyone Starts At The Bottom (we don't give out higher belts - no short cuts in our club)
Everyone Works
You Must Be Technical, You Must Be Tough, But You Must Be Technical
Combat Sports/Athletics
The combat arts/sports are the descendants of man’s oldest forms of unarmed combat (martial arts - in the truest and most literal definition of the term). These arts have survived to the modern era through the sport method and continue to thrive and evolve by way of this competitive training. Specifically we are talking about Boxing and Wrestling in all their eastern and western derivations. These would include: Boxing, Muay Thai, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
If it is a form of functional combat, regardless of its cultural background, then it is trained alive and athletically. These are the integrated combative methods that make up our curriculum. This the kind of training, that regardless of age or current fitness level, translates to stress release and a sense of confidence and well being. In fact, we believe that drilling and sparring for sport translates to the most intensive, challenging and safe way to build the necessary attributes for self-defense as well as building overall fitness.
We apply this athletic paradigm to our training because we believe that is among the healthiest approaches to developing yourself as a martial arts athlete and an individual.

During his time as an instructor, Rob has helped more than 50 people of all ages to reach their goal of becoming a black belt and has trained many competitors (and champions) in the Full Contact Martial Arts arena and Muay Thai ring. Rob constantly strives to give his students the best martial arts instruction he can, by continually training (including three trips to train in Thailand) and learning from other instructors and researching other martial arts. Because of this he is able to improve his curriculum's and training methods continually. He has now moved away from running the Academy as a full time business and now operates it as a "cost recovery" enterprise, and is totally focused on producing the highest calibre Martial Artists he can and to help people make positive changes in their lives.
